Extreme nonlinear optical enhancement in chalcogenide glass fibers with deep-subwavelength metallic nanowires

A nanostructured chalcogenide-metal optical fiber is proposed. This hybrid nanofiber is embedded with a periodic array of triangular-shaped deep-subwavelength metallic nanowires set up in a bowtie configuration. Our simulations show that the proposed nanostructured fiber supports a guided plasmonic mode enabling both subwavelength field confinement and extreme nonlinear light-matter interactions, much larger than a bare chalcogenide nanowire of comparable diameter. This is all achieved with less than 3% by volume of metal content.     

Heavy quarks at RHIC and LHC within a partonic transport model

Production and space-time evolution of heavy quarks in central and non-central heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and LHC are studied with the partonic transport model Boltzmann Approach of MultiParton Scatterings (BAMPS). In addition to the initially created heavy quarks in hard parton scatterings during nucleon-nucleon collisions, secondary heavy quark production in the quark-gluon plasma is investigated and the sensitivity on various parameters is estimated. In BAMPS heavy quarks scatter with particles of the medium via elastic collisions, whose cross section is calculated with the running coupling and a more precise implementation of Debye screening. In this framework, we compute the elliptic flow and nuclear modification factor of heavy quarks and compare it to the experimental data.     

Synthesis of vinca alkaloids and related compounds part 94. Epimerization of compounds with aspidospermane and D‐secoaspidospermane skeleton

The individual epimerization steps of vincadifformine ( 1 ), deethylvincadifformine isomers ( 2,3 ), their synthetic intermediates ( 4–13 ) as well as that of simpler compounds with D‐secoaspidospermane skeleton ( 15–17 ) were studied a ) in protic medium (boiling deuteroacetic acidic) and b ) under reductive (with sodium borodeuteride in boiling acetic acid, or with sodium borohydride in boiling deuteroacetic acid) conditions.

Macroscopic-microscopic theory of semi-spheroidal atomic cluster

The macroscopic-microscopic method is adapted to atomic clusters deposited on a surface. Analytical relationships for the deformation-dependent liquid drop model (LDM) energies of oblate and prolate semi-spheroidal atomic clusters have been obtained. A superdeformed prolate semi-spheroid is the most stable semi-spheroidal shape within LDM. It is also the shape with maximum degeneracy of quantum states of the semi-spheroidal harmonic oscillator used to compute the shell and pairing corrections. The microscopic corrections as well as total deformation energy show parabolic valley and ridges of the potential energy surfaces in the plane (deformation, number of atoms). The ground state and isomeric state deformation of clusters of various sizes depends on the interplay between the minima of LDM and shell correction energies.
